Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American television journalist anchor and commentary anchor for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Following a childhood within New York City, Mitchell earned a BA in English literature from The University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell was hired by KYW Radio and TV as the Philadelphia reporter in the year 1967. She became a reporter for the CBS-affiliate WDVM-TV, (then WTOP) located which was based in Washington DC. After two years, she joined NBC News as a Washington reporter. 1981 was the year she began reporting on for the White House, and in 1988, she was promoted to chief congressional correspondent. Then, in 1992 she was made the Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994, she was named chief foreign affairs reporter of NBC News. Mitchell appeared as both a host and panelist in the TV news program Meet the Press. Mitchell joined the panel during 1988's presidential debates, in which George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the spouse of Alan Greenspan who was former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has been awarded numerous times for journalism excellence, including her Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. She was also honored with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award presented by the Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell covered for the White House first for NBC News between 1981 and 1988 between the terms of Ronald Reagan's second term as president. Mitchell covered a variety of notable news reports, including arms control, budget taxes as well as the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also attended many summits with the help of President Reagan along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
